What is a Holi fundraiser?

A Holi fundraiser is a pick-a-date calendar fundraiser that pays for the community's festival of colors: the gulal, the food, the music and DJ, the field rental, the water and cleanup. Instead of collecting contributions by hand, the association or student group shares one March calendar in February; each person picks a date, the date is the price, and every claim shows their name and a Holi greeting. The festival is the deadline.

Launch in February. Every family in the first night. Nudge on day 5.

Build the calendar and go live on a weeknight in early February, in the month before Holi. Share the link in the association's WhatsApp group the same evening. Expect the money in the first week, one message on day 5, and the ends-in-24-hours email closes it the day before the festival.

Ideas

Holi fundraiser ideas that fill the calendar

  1. 01

    Launch in early February

The field and the DJ get booked a month out. A calendar that goes live in early February is filled before the deposits are due.

  2. 02

Send the day of Holi to the association president first

Text the link to one person and ask them to claim the festival date. A claimed Holi on day one pulls the rest of the calendar.

  3. 03

One color, one stretch of dates

Tell families which dates buy which color — days 1–10 the gulal, 11–20 the food, 21–31 the music and the field. People pick the one that means something to them.

  4. 04

Holi wishes on the supporter wall

Every claim shows a name and a message. Ask families to leave a Holi greeting in the message field, and read the wall at the festival.

  5. 05

Print the QR code on the flyer

Every campaign gets a QR code the moment it's built. Put it on the flyer, the campus notice board, and the temple bulletin — a scan lands on the calendar.

  6. 06

Set the calendar to 2× for a bigger festival

A Holi for 500 people needs more than $496. The 2× date-pricing setting makes the 13th $26 and a full March $992 from the same 31 dates.

  7. 07

Let the student association run its own stretch

Hand days 1–10 to the student group to fill from their own members. Same calendar, their own dates.

  8. 08

    Keep the colors free

With the calendar covering the budget, the gulal and the food can be free for everyone. Nobody sells tickets at the gate, and every gift lands with a receipt.

  9. 09

Share it where the community already talks

The share menu sends the link by WhatsApp, text, or email in one tap. The association's WhatsApp group beats a printed notice every time.

  10. 10

Post the filled calendar at the festival

Print it and display it at the entrance with every family's name. Next February, share last year's calendar with the new link and it fills itself.

Questions

Holi Fundraiser FAQ

How much can a Holi fundraiser raise?

All 31 March dates claimed totals $496 at standard pricing. Set the calendar to 2× and the same 31 dates raise up to $992. Team calendars multiply that by the number of participants.

What are good Holi fundraiser ideas for a student association?

A pick-a-date calendar needs no product and no ticket table: members claim a March date and give that amount, and every claim shows a name and a greeting. Keep the colors free and let the calendar cover the gulal, the food, and the field.

What does a Holi fundraiser cost to run?

Building and running a calendar is free. Givers pay a small service fee at checkout, shown before they pay, and organizers keep 100% of calendar donations. The fee is described in full in our Terms of Service.

When should a Holi fundraiser start?

Whenever you are ready. This is 2026: click and text, they pick a date and give. Most groups run it in the month before the event so the money is in before it is booked.

Do we need to be a nonprofit?

No. Cultural associations, temples, student groups, and families all run calendars. You need a payout account in your name — Stripe or Square — and that's it.

When does the money arrive?

Donations settle into your own Stripe or Square account. With Stripe, the standard schedule pays out to your bank after 7 days; Square follows its own payout schedule. Either way, payouts run on a regular cycle and go to your bank automatically — you don't have to do anything.

Do givers need an account?

No. It's a web link: tap a date, enter a name, pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay, Cash App, or card.
