What is a Thanksgiving fundraiser?

A Thanksgiving fundraiser is a pick-a-date calendar fundraiser that pays for the community dinner, the church meal, or the friendsgiving: the turkeys, the sides, the tables, the boxes for families in need. Instead of passing a basket, you share one November calendar in October; each person picks a date, the date is the price, and every claim shows their name and a message of thanks. The dinner is the deadline.

A real campaign, hour by hour

How a Thanksgiving fundraiser fills in 72 hours

Real numbers, real calendar. One youth basketball club, two waves, hour by hour — including the launch-timing mistake worth avoiding.

Launched late on a Sunday night

The calendar went live at 11:32 PM on a Sunday. The first gift came 36 hours later. Compare: weekday-evening launches on this playbook see a first gift in under two hours.

Build the calendar and go live on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening in mid-October, when the dinner is being planned. Share the link with the congregation or the group the same night. Expect the money in the first week, then one team message on day 5 — the club above skipped it and waited a week for its second wave.

Ideas

Thanksgiving fundraiser ideas that fill the calendar

  1. 01

    Launch in mid-October

The dinner gets planned in October. A calendar that goes live in the middle of the month is filled before the turkeys are ordered.

  2. 02

Send Thanksgiving Day to the host first

Text the link to the pastor or the host and ask them to claim the last date. A claimed Thanksgiving on day one pulls the rest of November.

  3. 03

    A table for each family

Days 1–10 cover the food, 11–20 the tables and rentals, 21–30 the boxes for families in need. Tell people which stretch buys what; they pick the one that means something to them.

  4. 04

Gratitude notes on the supporter wall

Every claim shows a name and a message. Ask people to write what they're thankful for in the message field, and read the wall aloud before the meal.

  5. 05

Print the QR code in the bulletin

Every campaign gets a QR code the moment it's built. Put it in the church bulletin and on the fellowship hall door — a scan lands on the calendar.

  6. 06

Set the calendar to 2× for a bigger dinner

Two hundred plates need more than $465. The 2× date-pricing setting makes the 14th $28 and a full November $930 from the same 30 dates.

  7. 07

    Keep the potluck a potluck

Keep the calendar as the only money mechanic. Nobody passes a basket, and every gift lands with a receipt.

  8. 08

Give the youth group the 20s

Hand days 20–29 to the youth leaders to fill from their own families. Same calendar, their own stretch of dates.

  9. 09

Share it in the group text on a weeknight

The share menu sends the link by text, email, or WhatsApp in one tap. A Tuesday-evening share starts faster than a Sunday-night one.

  10. 10

Post the filled calendar at the dinner

Print it and set it by the door with every name on it. Next October, share last year's calendar with the new link and it fills itself.

Questions

Thanksgiving Fundraiser FAQ

How much can a Thanksgiving fundraiser raise?

All 30 November dates claimed totals $465 at standard pricing. Set the calendar to 2× and the same 30 dates raise up to $930. Team calendars multiply that by the number of participants.

What are good Thanksgiving fundraiser ideas for a church?

A pick-a-date calendar needs no product and no table at the door: members claim a November date and give that amount, and every claim shows a name and a note of thanks. Pair it with the potluck sign-up and the calendar covers the turkeys, the rentals, and the boxes for families in need.

What does a Thanksgiving fundraiser cost to run?

Building and running a calendar is free. Givers pay a small service fee at checkout, shown before they pay, and organizers keep 100% of calendar donations. The fee is described in full in our Terms of Service.

When should a Thanksgiving fundraiser start?

Whenever you are ready. This is 2026: click and text, they pick a date and give. Most groups run it in the month before the event so the money is in before it is booked.

Do we need to be a nonprofit?

No. Churches, community groups, offices, and families all run calendars. You need a payout account in your name — Stripe or Square — and that's it.

When does the money arrive?

Donations settle into your own Stripe or Square account. With Stripe, the standard schedule pays out to your bank after 7 days; Square follows its own payout schedule. Either way, payouts run on a regular cycle and go to your bank automatically — you don't have to do anything.

Do givers need an account?

No. It's a web link: tap a date, enter a name, pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay, Cash App, or card.
