What is a trunk or treat fundraiser?

A trunk or treat fundraiser is a pick-a-date calendar fundraiser that pays for the parking-lot Halloween: the candy by the case, the trunk decorations, the prizes. Instead of a candy-money envelope, families pick an October date on a shared calendar, the date is the price, and every claim shows the supporter's name and their message of support for the team. Run it in the in the month before the event; party night is the deadline.

Nobody sent the day-5 nudge — days 9 and 10 raised $67

The Email Team tab was never used, so the calendar went quiet at 64% of goal. One team message on day 5 — "we're at $2,700, the 20s are wide open" — is the single step this playbook adds.

Launch tonight. Join the team tonight. Nudge on day 5.

Build the calendar and go live the same evening. Get every room parent, trunk host, and youth leader joined before bed so their links go out while the class group text is warm. Expect the money in 72 hours, then one team message on day 5 — the "ends in 24 hours" email does the rest.

Ideas

Trunk or treat fundraiser ideas that fill the calendar

  1. 01

Send the link to the 31st's owner first

Before the calendar goes to the whole group, text the link to the pastor, the principal, or last year's best trunk and ask them to claim Halloween night. A claimed 31st on day one pulls the rest of the month.

  2. 02

    One trunk, one date

Ask each trunk host to claim the date matching their parking spot number. Thirty trunks, thirty dates, and the calendar becomes the lot map.

  3. 03

Pitch the high dates to the usual helpers

Days 25–31 are the expensive ones. Send those to the two or three families who always ask how they can do more — a personal text with the link, not the group blast.

  4. 04

Turn the supporter wall into the best-trunk vote

Every claim shows a name and a message on the calendar. Ask families to name the trunk they're rooting for in the message field, tally it at the event, and announce the winner.

  5. 05

    Room-parent relay

Give each classroom three dates to fill and share the same link with every room parent. The first classroom whose dates are all claimed wins the front-row parking spots.

  6. 06

Print the QR code on the bulletin and the door

Every campaign gets a QR code the moment it's built. Put it in the church bulletin, on the school door, and on the folding table by the candy — a scan lands on the calendar.

  7. 07

Give the youth group the 20s

Hand days 20–29 to the youth leaders to fill from their own families. Same calendar, their own stretch of dates.

  8. 08

Set the calendar to 2× for a bigger lot

A parking lot with 60 trunks needs more than $496. The 2× date-pricing setting makes the 13th $26 and a full month $992 from the same 31 dates.

  9. 09

Run the cook-off on the side, not the money

Keep the calendar as the only money mechanic and add a chili cook-off or costume contest as the draw. Nobody handles cash in a parking lot, and every gift lands with a receipt.

  10. 10

Thank the calendar at the trunks

Print the filled calendar and post it at the entrance with every supporter's name on it. Next October, share last year's calendar with the new link and it fills itself.

Questions

Trunk or Treat Fundraiser FAQ

How much can a trunk or treat fundraiser raise?

All 31 October dates claimed totals $496 at standard pricing. Set the calendar to 2× and the same 31 dates raise up to $992. Team calendars multiply that by the number of participants.

What does a trunk or treat fundraiser cost?

Building and running a calendar is free. Givers pay a small service fee at checkout, shown before they pay, and organizers keep 100% of calendar donations. The fee is described in full in our Terms of Service.

Do we need to be a nonprofit?

No. PTOs, PTAs, churches, booster clubs and individuals all run calendars. You need a payout account in your name — Stripe or Square — and that's it.

When does the money arrive?

Donations settle into your own Stripe or Square account. With Stripe, the standard schedule pays out to your bank after 7 days; Square follows its own payout schedule. Either way, payouts run on a regular cycle and go to your bank automatically — you don't have to do anything.

Is it too late to start a trunk or treat fundraiser in October?

No. Calendars with a deadline fill fastest — the real campaign above raised 73% of its total in the first 72 hours. Even a two-week run fills the back half of the month first.

Do givers need an account?

No. It's a web link: tap a date, enter a name, pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay, Cash App, or card.

How long should a trunk or treat fundraiser run?

Whenever you are ready. This is 2026: click and text, they pick a date and give. Most groups run it in the month before the event so the money is in before it is booked.
